Delatre, Eugene
1864-1938

As the son of the famous engraver Auguste Delatre, Eugene had a natural pre-disposition for art and printmaking. But it was his own ambition and talent that drove him to achieve his success as an artist. He was a superb draftsman and painter and could expertly capture likenesses from portraits to landscapes. Then his skill as an engraver on copper to bring the image to life. He was particularly adept at color engraving and established himself as a master in the field.

Delatre's favorite subject was the area around his studio in Montmartre and he depicted these familiar scenes with sensitivity and a certain sense of melancholy.
