Malo-Renault, Auguste
(1870-1938)

Born Emile Auguste Renault in the town of St. Malo in Brittany, he went to Paris as a young man to study architecture. He soon became a student at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs and learned to etch and engrave. It was after his marriage to Honorine Tian (Nori Malo-Renault) that he really began his career as a print maker.

Malo-Renault's oeuvre deals with familiar Breton and Parisian subjects. All of his work, characteristic of the Art Nouveau style, shows a Japanese influence, clearly visible in his decorative composition and richness of his colors.
