Grasset, Eugene (Editor)

Born in Switzerland in 1841, Eugene Grasset moved to Paris at the age of 30 to become a graphic designer and teacher. His work had a distinct Arts and Crafts quality and can be seen in his many illustrated books, calendars, posters and furnishings. He gained recognition for his decoration of the famous Le Chat Noir cabaret in Montmartre.

Grasset's albums and textbooks made a major contribution to graphic design and the decorative arts at the end of the 19th Century. His works "La Plante et ses applications ornementales" and "Méthode de composition ornementale" were important influences on decorative style at the Turn of the Century.
