Belleroche, Albert

Despite his French name, Albert de Belleroche was born in Wales to noble parents and grew up in Paris and London. He was a friend and studio mate of John Singer Sargent and they often worked together and sketched each other.

Though he studied painting, Belleroche soon transitioned to lithography and is best known for his beautiful portraits of women created using wax crayon on stone. Heralded as a Master Lithographer and knighted as a Chevalier de l’Ordre de Leopold, Belleroche enjoyed critical and commercial success as an artist until the 1920s and remains a respected and very collectable artist to this day.
