Lucien Gautier was born and died in Aix-en-Provence in the south of France and is probably best known for his views of Marseille. However, as a young man he studied art in Paris and his first position was with the Paris Police where he organized their photography department! His views of both the city and the seashore are noted for their fine draftsmanship and quality etching.
