The Hungarian artist Marcel Vertès began as a leading poster artist in Vienna in the early 1920s. From there he went to Paris where he became a muralist and book illustrator. He eventually traveled to America where he painted murals in stores, restaurants and private homes, and became an Academy Award winning set and costume designer.
