French

Charles Huard began his artistic career working for illustrated journals such as Le Rire, Cocorico and L’Assiette au beurre where he typically depicted “provincial Frenchmen”, often from Normandy. During the First World War, he was hired by the French government to illustrate military life both on and off the battlefield. After the War he pursued his passion for travel and often recorded his voyages in print.
